CASEY’S Metro Three South men’s side sent a message to the rest of its division, smashing an inexperienced Frankston side 10-0 on Sunday.
The Cannons, who were playing the first of five home games for the day, started with a bang, drawing a penalty corner in the first minute.
The in-form Craig Moore duly converted the chance. A second came from Moore a short time later and when Andrew Axton smashed in another corner the Cannons were home and hosed.
The second half saw the floodgates open with Moore dropping in a couple of solo goals – making it four for the day – and the Randall brothers, Steve, Chris and Michael, also scoring. Blaine Cridge also managed a double and set up two others with his dashing wing runs.
Adam Beckwith was strong in defence and Steve Randall was integral in a number of the goals.
The firsts eked out a 1-1 draw with Frankston. Frankston was first to score in the State League Three clash with a brilliant lifted back stick sweep after some slick work down the left.
It wasn’t long before Casey responded with a thunderous drive from penalty corner expert Nick Hatch, which clipped the top of the ’keeper’s pad and lobbed into the net.
The ones – as with previous weeks – had plenty of opportunities, but could not find the winner. The Metro One West side met its match against Monash Uni, going down 3-0.
In the women’s division, the State League Three side fought out a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Footscray.
The old firm of Debbie Jacobs and Fiona Young were staunch, while up-and-comers Jessica Light and Claire Rundell provided the drive in an ultimately fruitless day for the ones.
Metro One South drew 1-1 with TEM and now sits outside the top four with only goal difference separating them and a finals’ slot.
It was the same result for Metro Three South against Monash Uni.
Metro Four South went down 5-0 against a well-drilled Mentone side.
The junior game of the week saw the Cannons’ under-17 pennant A side score a resounding 5-0 win over Baw Baw in the local derby.
Baw Baw went into the match a game behind the Cannons, but found just how wide the gap can be through a hat-trick from men’s thirds’ hero Craig Moore.
Casey is now second on goal difference and should beat a lowly Mentone side this week.
