Halal on the health menu

CASEY Hospital will now have a range of more than 20 Halal meals on offer for patients.
All the Halal meals, prepared at the Kingston Centre Central Production in Cheltenham, are prepared according to Halal guidelines and distributed to all hospitals run by Southern Health.
Southern Health’s Director of Support Services, Veronica Jamison, said the approach was approved by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils and compliant with the Department of Human Services Victorian Nutrition Standards.
“Southern Health is the only Halal accredited production facility in the public sector, and is producing a wide variety of meals for our patients,” she said.
“The decision to produce Halal meals was prompted by the growing number of requests from our local catchment area and Southern Health’s commitment to providing better health across all communities.”
