Works for black spot

– Kelly Yates
CONSTRUCTION works at a Berwick intersection are set to commence during the next financial year.
VicRoads is currently undertaking preliminary designs for safety improvements to the Parkhill Drive and Mansfield Street intersection after receiving $72,000 in funding under the Federal Government’s black spot program, according to VicRoads Metropolitan South East acting regional director Praveen Reddy.
The project, which comes as a result of the high crash history at the site, involves modifying the traffic signals to eliminate the conflict between vehicles turning right from Parkhill Drive into Princes Highway, and pedestrians crossing Princes Highway.
In addition, the approach lanes on Parkhill Drive and Mansfield Street will be modified to allow two lanes to turn right onto Princes Highway.
The pedestrian crossing on the west side of the intersection will also be removed to improve safety for pedestrians.
VicRoads reported 13 casualty crashes at the intersection over the past five years, including four serious injury crashes.
