Door-to-door scam strikes

DOOR knockers are hitting the streets of Berwick posing as SP AusNet representatives selling cheap electricity.
The local electricity distributor is warning Casey residents following reports that sales people are falsely claiming to represent the company and offering discounts on electricity.
SP AusNet spokeswoman Louisa Graham said the door-to-door salespeople were not in any way associated with SP AusNet.
“The reports we have received indicate that door knockers have an identification badge with the SP AusNet logo on it and are telling people they can provide cheaper electricity than retailers because we’re an electricity distributor.”
“We want the community to be aware of these scams and also for them to know that we are not in the business of dealing directly with customers’ bills. It’s not possible for anyone from our company to offer electricity deals,” Ms Graham said. The company owns and operates the electricity poles and wires in the area.
