EATING disorders, relationships and alcohol are some of the subjects of a lunchtime program at Hampton Park Secondary College.
Angel Light Link has run awareness programs at Casey schools since 2006.
All About You Prevention and Education Program focuses on specific issues or a variety of topics aimed to give young women hope for the future.
Sessions are run by volunteers who specialise in areas such as counselling, communication, social work, and education.
The program has been running during lunch hours at Hampton Park Secondary College every Thursday in Term 2.
Angel Light Link co-ordinator Sally McCracken said the program at Hampton Park was 45 minutes and discussed a different topic each week for eight weeks to female students in Years 7 to 10.
“We provide a lot of information about each topic, but also conduct interactive activities. Students also have the opportunity to ask questions,” she said.
“We have received a lot of positive feedback from the girls.”
Ms McCracken quoted anonymous testimonials supporting the program.
One said: “I learned to value myself for who I am and not submit to peer-group pressure.” Another said: “Talking about weight and body image helps. Not everyone needs to be skinny, or the same.”
The program is supported by Three Model Cars of the World, Myer Foundation and the Sunshine Foundation.
