ART lovers can enjoy two new exhibitions at the City of Casey’s Civic Centre Art Space.
As I See You by Elly Abrat and Little Jewels by Jenny Conn will be on display until 20 July and are free for all visitors to enjoy.
As I See You by popular local portrait artist Elly Abrat features a range of portraits, including local identity Lady Uppity Crust.
Ms Abrat aims to capture the human spirit and show how diverse people are in each of her portraits.
A short story accompanies her work, explaining who the portrait is of and Ms Abrat’s experience of painting them.
“I view art as a life-long apprenticeship, I never stop learning,” she said.
“Faces tell many stories. My portraits capture a glimpse of what lies beneath the surface, as I see it.”
Little Jewels by Jenny Conn is a display of original pieces including a range of jewellery featuring semi-precious beads and ceramic beads handmade by the artist.
Also featured is a range of ceramic pieces, such as jewellery boxes, vases and plates.
Ms Conn is an experienced potter who managed her own studio pottery business for more than 10 years and has exhibited extensively throughout Casey and Cardinia.
“The aim of my exhibition is to show how natural materials from earth and sea can be formed into precious handmade items,” she said.
“Clay, sand, water and fire may be transformed and produces beautiful porcelain, glass, metal and precious stones.”
The Civic Centre Art Space is located at the City of Casey council offices, Magid Drive, Narre Warren, and is open Monday to Friday 8am until 6pm. Entry is free and most artworks are available to purchase.
Applications to exhibit in the 2010 Art Space Exhibition Program will open shortly. Details will be available at ww.casey.vic.gov.au/artspace/.
