Cannons fire for draws

DRAWS were the order of the round for both the Casey Cannons men’s and women’s State League Three sides.
The women took on third-placed WestVic Hockey and, sniffing a chance to close the gap between them and the top four, the Cannons went on the attack, with goals to the in-form Claire Rundell and April Picton, who smashed her first of the season.
WVH countered with two goals of its own, but the performance showed the Cannons can compete with any side in State League Three.
The men’s firsts made it two draws on the trot as they slotted two past powerhouse RMIT – cancelling out TAFE’s double.
The men’s seconds and thirds both suffered defeat at the hands of Mornington, Metro One East went down 2-0 and Metro Three South, missing its two top goalscorers, lost 3-0.
The women’s Metro One South squad was thumped 7-0 by a well-oiled Mentone machine, but the thirds fared better, knocking over their Metro Three South rival Southern United 2-1.
Metro Four South went down 3-0.
