CASEY families will soon have better access to the best maternity services, with planning and design well underway for the $4.2 million expansion of Casey Hospital’s special care nursery.
Health Minister Daniel Andrews visited the Berwick hospital yesterday (Wednesday) to inspect plans for the project. The expansion will more than triple the number of special care nursery cots used to treat sick babies.
According to Mr Andrews, the number of special care nursery cots will increase from six to 20.
“This significant expansion of neo-natal services will boost access to maternity services for the rapidly growing community in the outer south eastern suburbs,” Mr Andrews said.
“The design of the unit incorporates principles of patient-focused and family-centred care, and will enhance the current collaborative model of care provided at Casey.”
Construction is set to start early next year with completion expected in late 2010.
