AT FRANCIS Xavier College students will soon be putting their best feet forward, competing at the National level for aerobics.
The students from the Berwick campus will travel to Adelaide to compete on Sunday, 16 August at the Schoolaerobics National Championships.
Kerry Townsend, head coach of college’s Team Blitz said she was excited for the students, as this would be St Francis’ first appearance at a national level.
“We’ve been competing for about four years now and this is the best we’ve done so far,” she said.
The popularity of aerobics is also on the rise at the college as this year it had a record 42 students from Years 7-9 compete in six teams. The college’s Team Blitz will fly the flag for St Francis in Adelaide after finishing second at the State competition in June.
Ms Townsend said the girls were very deserving of their achievement so far as they trained three to four times a week, coming in early mornings and giving up their lunch times.
“They are really independent and have worked really hard,” she said.
The students have even had a hand in helping to choreograph sections of their routine.
The school is now busy trying to raise the estimated $3500 needed to take the girls to Adelaide for the competition.
