THE Narre Community Learning Centre has applied for a Federal Government grant in the hope of building a stand-alone education and training facility worth more than $1.4 million.
The centre has applied for the grant under the Investing in Community Education and Training program.
The proposed single-storey building, which will be on council-owned land adjacent to the Malcolm Court centre, is expected to be completed by June next year, depending on the success of the application.
The facility will include a seminar room for 120 people, four training rooms, a meeting and interview room, reception, kitchen and toilet facilities and storage and cleaning facilities.
CEO of the Narre Community Learning Centre Wayne Hewitt said the funding application was exciting news for the Casey community.
“The centre needs the funding to keep up with the growing demand in the area,” he said.
“If it all comes off it will be a great opportunity for our organisation to provide the educational services needed.”
The project has been scoped at a cost of $1.48 million, which includes project management, design construction, contingencies, fees, landscaping, car parking and furniture and equipment.
There will be no cash contribution to the works required by Casey Council, but they will however oversee the management of all design and construction works if the building goes ahead.
According to council officers, Casey’s existing lease with the Narre Community Learning Centre will also be extended to include the new building. Casey will work with the centre to ensure the works are completed within the nominated timeframe.
Announcements of the successful applications will be made on 31 July.
