CASEY residents will soon have every chance to get fit thanks to an $80,000 funding boost for the ‘Go for your life’ active places program.
Minister for Sport and Recreation James Merlino and Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley announced the funding on Tuesday at Cairns Road Recreation Reserve in Hampton Park.
The ‘Go for your life’ initiative encourages the community to take part in local sport and recreational activities to help reduce preventable chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity.
Ms Graley said the program would reach out and engage people in Hampton Park who have low and non-participation in sport and recreation through a range of organised activities, based around newly developed open spaces like Red Gum Reserve.
Some of the activities on offer include walking, cycling groups, Lifeball, and ‘come and try days’ at local sporting clubs.
Ms Graley congratulated the City of Casey as the lead agency in co-ordinating the delivery of the program.
