More help from government

CASEY home buyers who choose to buy a newly constructed home will get more assistance from 1 July thanks to incentives from the Brumby and Rudd Governments.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said the government’s contribution for first homebuyers who choose to build or buy a newly-constructed home would go up to $32,000 for new homes in Melbourne and $36,500 for new homes in regional Victoria.
“This increase will help to create jobs, stimulate the economy and help cushion Victorians against the effects of the global financial crisis,” Mr Donnellan said.
Other changes coming in this month include an increase in the water and sewerage concession cap for 2009-10 to assist low-income households manage water price increases.
In an Australian first the Victorian Training Guarantee will start giving Victorians the entitlement to access government-subsided training and new university-style loans, government school grounds will become smoke-free and community services organisations will benefit from a 3.14 per cent funding increase through an agreement announced back in May.
