POLICE caught 53 speeding drivers in eight hours in the City of Casey as part of Operation Eagles, launched to try to halt the region’s rising road toll.
Acting Sergeant Allen Inderwisch said police caught five disqualified drivers and two unlicensed drivers during the operation.
Acting Sergeant Inderwisch said Casey drivers still were not getting the road safety message.
“We will continue to enforce the zero tolerance policy until people start to get the message,” he said.
“Remember, if you get caught you only have yourself to blame.”
Four unregistered motor vehicles were picked up and eight defect notices were handed out.
“Police also caught four drivers failing to obey traffic lights and one driver failing to obey a traffic sign,” Acting Sergeant Inderwisch said.
Twelve drivers were caught not wearing seat belts and 16 drivers were picked up using mobile phones while driving.
