Cannons fail to reload

CASEY Hockey Club’s men’s State League Three side blew a 2-1 lead in going down to Powerhouse on the weekend.
The Cannons went 1-0 down early to a soft Powerhouse goal before Nick Hatch pummelled a penalty corner into the backboard to tie it up.
Another corner saw Casey go 2-1 up through a sublime drag flick from Matt Light.
Powerhouse flocked forward in the second half, but Ben Smith’s and Scott Daly’s staunch defence kept them out.
The last five minutes saw heartbreak for the Cannons as their good work was undone by two late goals.
Metro One East smashed Greensborough 4-0 through two Paul Hogg goals.
Chris Ferreira and young gun Cameron Ritchie rounded out the scoring.
A Craig Moore hat-trick saw the Metro Three South team jump into third spot, easily accounting for Southern United 4-0.
Newcomer Jeff Smit scored the other goal.
The club’s under-15 pennant-A side knocked off Hawthorn 3-2 to register its first win of the season in the junior game of the week.
Hawthorn scored early before the talented James Munro converted a penalty corner to level the scores at half-time.
Neither midfield was able to get on top in the second half, but another penalty corner for Casey saw a Robert Third drag flick hit the crossbar, enabling Josh Phillips to tap in and make it 2-1.
A lapse in concentration resulted in Hawthorn tying it up once more before Munro defied an acute angle five minutes from time to put in his second of the night.
