All change at Rotary

By Kelly Yates
ATTRACTING new members and increasing public awareness is one of the aims of the new president of the Rotary Club of Narre Warren, Tim Fisher.
Members welcomed Mr Fisher as he was inducted at the changeover dinner last Wednesday night at Switch in Narre Warren.
Outgoing president Ian Pickering described the past year as a tough and challenging one.
“We had the worst year I can remember with regards to the Black Saturday fires, the economic crisis and the death of Rotarian Marion Mason and past district governor Harry Oakes,” he said.
Mr Pickering spoke about the recent Tonga project when some of the club’s members spent between two and three weeks renovating a school.
“It was a sensational international project and seeing the joy on the kids’ faces when we had renovated their school was great,” Mr Pickering said.
During the change-over dinner, Mr Pickering presented members with some fun awards such as the rising star award, hospitality award and the master painter award.
Rotarian Chris McGill was made a Paul Harris Fellow on the night, while her husband Roger and member Ross Chudleigh received Paul Harris Fellow Sapphire Pins.
“I’m shocked and very proud and honoured to receive this,” Mrs McGill said.
Mr McGill said he was completely knocked off his feet and lost for words.
“I’m thrilled and rapt. Thank you,” Mr McGill said.
Some of Mr Fisher’s other aims for his year as presid-ent include a focus on fellowship at the club and having a range of interesting guest speakers.
