STUDENTS at Mary Mackillop Primary School in Narre Warren North are on track to tip-top fitness with the completion of a new synthetic sports oval.
The oval, which was developed through the Rudd Government’s National School Pride Program, boasts a four-lane 50-metre sprint track, a two-lane exercise circuit, AFL goal markings, soccer pitch markings and has three bat tennis courts and a downball court.
“The synthetic surface provides kids with an all-weather facility for playtimes and PE lessons,” Holt MP Anthony Byrne said. “The synthetic sports oval was used by kids at Mary Mackillop Primary School for the first time this week.”
Mary Mackillop Primary School principal Maree Swensen said the new multi-function sports surface was an asset to the school community.
“The school community is looking forward to holding many major events such as athletics carnivals and inter-school sports matches on this area,” Ms Swensen said.
“The funding is greatly appreciated as it has transformed our school.” Mary Mackillop Primary School received $200,000 through the National School Pride Program for the multi-purpose sports oval with a synthetic surface.
The National School Pride program is delivering on the first phase of the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution. Under this program, every Australian school receives up to $200,000, based on the size of the school, for maintenance and minor building works.
