Feeling the heat

THE Casey Comets fell back into the State League Two South East relegation battle on Saturday after recording their second successive loss, going down 3-1 to South Springvale at Warner Reserve.
The Comets could not have picked a worse game to lose, as they need to finish above the Souths to avoid relegation.
The side got off to a cracking start with Liam Ryan scoring the opening goal but it all went downhill from there.
South Springvale received what Comets coach Tony Saunders described as “a dubious penalty”, converted it and pushed on, adding a second before half-time then a sealer after the break.
Needless to say, Saunders was not impressed with his side.
“It was terrible,” he said. “(They were) just not playing to instructions, that was the crux of it all.
“It was almost the same side put out against Dandenong barring three players, where we won 3-0 (two rounds earlier) … it was just an inconsistent performance.”
Elsewhere, Berwick City kept its quest for promotion from State League Three South East on track with a 1-0 win against Boroondara at Jack Thomas Reserve.
Joe Carrol’s troops were in fine form, with Jonathan Ash scoring the match-winner in the second half.
City maintains its one-game buffer at the top of the ladder and with six rounds remaining, appears set for State League Two next season.
The news was not so good for Endeavour Hills in Provisional League One South East, going down 4-0 to the Old Camberwell Grammarians, while Doveton recorded a 0-0 draw with Old Scotch at Waratah Reserve.
This Saturday the Comets will look to bounce back in their clash with second-placed Malvern City, Berwick City heads away to take on Peninsula Strikers, Endeavour United hosts Fitzroy City and Doveton faces Monash University.
