Going green

THE community is coming together to green up Casey for National Tree Day, the country’s largest community tree-planting event.
Volunteers are being encouraged to grab their shovels and take part in the event on Sunday 2 August at Frog Hollow Reserve in Endeavour Hills from 10am to 2pm.
This will be the seventh National Tree Day event held in Endeavour Hills.
Staff at Casey Central Shopping Centre in Narre Warren South will also be participating in the tree planting initiative. Centre manager at Casey Central Shopping Centre Joseph Galea said National Tree Day, now in its 14th year, was an opportunity for people to take a positive and active role in helping the local environment. Plants and tools will be provided on the day, with volunteers being encouraged to wear strong footwear and clothing to suit the weather conditions. In 2008, more than 300,000 volunteers planted 1.2 million native trees and shrubs at 3,500 sites around Australia. For details, call Ray Darbritz on 0419 874 831.
