Mixed success for Cannons

CASEY’S women’s State League Three side moved within a game of the top four with a 6-1 thrashing of PEGS on Sunday.
Talented trio Jess Light, Shara Cousens and April Picton scored two goals each as the firsts proved they are a force to be reckoned with.
But the Cannons’ male State League Three counterparts fell deeper into relegation danger with a 3-1 loss to fellow struggler St Bede’s.
Two goals in the first five minutes made it very difficult for Casey and, despite a goal from midfield maestro Blake Edwards, the Cannons could not get level.
A late strike from St Bede’s put the result beyond doubt.
A Cameron Ritchie goal saw Casey’s Metro One East side defeat Greater Dandenong 1-0.
Metro Three South belted an undermanned Greater Dandenong Warriors 7-1, with goals to full-backs Michael Bannister and Adam Beckwith the highlight.
Chris Randall started the rot with an early double and goals to James Doble, Blaine Cridge and Craig Moore rounded out the rout.
The women’s Metro One South team beat Hawthorn 2-0; Metro Three South went down 1-0 to Swinburne; and Metro Four South lost 2-0 to Mornington Navy.
In the junior game of the week, the under-13 South team knocked over Mornington 4-0.
Casey scored its first just before half-time through Cassandra Kay, and Stacey Woodfield and Mikaela Davis made it 3-0 early in the second half.
Staunch defence from Cameron Greene, Tyler Brown and the Shilliday brothers, Jamie and Adam, made it impossible for Mornington to penetrate the D and Kurt Lombard put the game in the bag with a late strike.
