A MEMORIAL garden has been created at Narre Warren South P-12 College in memory of Joel Brimble, Anja Miler and Riyani Lowen.
The three teenagers died in a horror smash at the intersection of Ormond and Hallam roads in Lynbrook on 28 June. Assistant principal Rob Duncan said the garden, which features a large rock surrounded by roses and shrubs, was completed last Friday.
The students at the school said their final farewells to the teenagers with a special service on the day.
Emma Lowen, the mother of 16-year-old Riyani, has praised the efforts of VicRoads employees and police for returning the flowers and tributes that were displayed at the intersection.
Authorities removed the roadside memorial after police claimed it was a factor in a crash on 10 July which left a 21-year-old woman dead.
The Narre Warren South mother said she made it her mission to get all of the tributes returned.
“VicRoads were really good about it all and we had them back the weekend after the most recent fatality,” she said.
“The roadside memorial meant nothing to me. But I knew it meant something to the kids.” VicRoads metropolitan south east regional director Duncan Elliot said VicRoads would continue to work with the families to establish a permanent roadside memorial appropriate to the site.
