Odds and ends to build school- Gloria Hardy and Sylvia Gray are holding a garage sale this wee

By Kelly Yates
EVERY little bit will help a Narre Warren mission worker as she raises money to build a boarding school for disadvantaged children in Uganda.
Gloria Hardy and fellow missionary worker Sylvia Gray are organising a garage sale with volunteers from the Berwick Church of Christ on Saturday 8 August.
The jumble sale with have something for everyone, with electrical goods, furniture, and children’s clothing for sale.
The 70-year-old is hoping to raise $1000 on the day.
Both women have travelled to Uganda several times, with Ms Hardy saying the children over there were in desperate need of the bare essentials such as food and clothing.
“It’s a beautiful country but the people there are not looked after,” Ms Hardy said.
“They don’t have the support they need. The latest news is that up in the north of Uganda a lot of the children are starving.”
Ms Hardy has been a missionary worker since 1992, also travelling to Indonesia and Iraq.
She said she enjoyed the missionary work because she liked to help those in need.
“I like to see them free from burdens. There is so much poverty there. The children are begging on the streets,” she said.
The pair will be holding different fundraisers every month.
Ms Hardy said there were existing boarding schools in Uganda but not enough to cater for the disadvantaged children.
“We would start to house 20 children in the school and then hopefully grow from there,” she said. “Within the next five to ten years we want the boarding school to be up and running.”
The garage sale will be held at 2 County Drive in Berwick from 8am to 4pm.
