THE principal of a Clyde North school is heading to Hong Kong and China in an effort to recruit international students.
Hillcrest Christian College is welcoming its first international student from Sri Lanka, Romaldo, this term.
Principal Daniel Pampuch and Judy Cheah, the school’s international students’ co-ordinator, will travel overseas this month to actively recruit students for the college. The trip will include visiting local schools and also attending two expos and manning a display stand for the college.
“We hope to increase the profile of Hillcrest overseas and network with the locals to help them understand that Hillcrest is a viable option for their education,” Ms Cheah said.
Since late 2008, the school has been a registered International Students Education Provider, offering an academic program to overseas students from prep to Year 12. The overseas students have the option of staying with home-stay families.
Mr Pampuch said the students at the school would be able to interact, gain knowledge and also understand people from different cultural backgrounds.
“This is an aspect of learning that cannot be obtained from textbooks and it will be a valuable experience for them to carry throughout their adult life,” Mr Pampuch said.
