CRANBOURNE Turf Club will host another race day this Saturday after the previous weekend’s meet was washed out.
On Sunday the track received 8mm of rain in the hour and a half before the first race and, after running the opening event – a three-year-old Maiden Plate – track officials abandoned the rest of the day.
The race meeting this Saturday will feature seven events, the longest of which is a 2025m 0-62 Handicap.
Club chief executive officer Neil Bainbridge said this Saturday’s event was not just because last Sunday’s meet was washed out.
“It’s not just as a result of the Cranbourne washout – there’s been a number of race meetings in country Victoria that have been weather affected,” he said.
“Racing Victoria has asked us to have an additional meeting this Saturday.”
Cranbourne was also forced to abandon its Monday trials at the Cranbourne Training Complex.
