A COMBINED faith statement is set to join the Christian prayer at Casey council meetings in the future.
Councillors unanimously voted at Tuesday night’s council meeting that council officers will work with all Christian religions in the municipality to create a roster to deliver the council meeting prayer.
They also agreed that, in accordance with Casey’s commitment to tolerance and harmony, officers will also work alongside other legally recognised religions to create a roster to possibly deliver a faith message at the meetings, should they wish.
Erdington Ward councillor Simon Curtis said the meetings should include both the Christian prayer, and a combined faith statement, similar to that used in the City of Greater Dandenong.
He said the passing of the motion this week was the most significant achievement he had seen during his time on the council.
“This week we took a great stride in the march towards harmony in the City of Casey, and we should celebrate this decision,” Cr Curtis said.
The new roster will be implemented by the last council meeting in November.
