SPRINGFIELD Ward councillors Lorraine Wreford and Sam Aziz bowled the first jack and bowl at the Narre Warren Bowls Club last Saturday to open the summer bowls season.
President John Uren said the event attracted around 75 people, with everyone enjoying an afternoon tea to mark the occasion.
Mr Uren said the club was enjoying a resurgence, with the clubroom extension works nearing completion.
“The lighting of the greens was also recently completed and membership is growing,” he said.
According to Mr Uren, the future is looking bright for the club with one green set to be renovated and a drought-tolerant grass installed, and a second green to be converted to a synthetic surface as soon as funds are available.
“These two actions will save water and allow greater utilisation of the greens,” Mr Uren said.
The Narre Warren Bowls Club is located on Magid Drive adjacent to Westfield Fountain Gate.
Anyone wishing to try bowls should call 8790 5824.
