State nod for hockey talent

SIX of the Casey Cannons’ brightest young hockey talents will suit up for Victoria at the Australian Indoor Championships in New South Wales in January.
Alicia Sonn and Samantha Wagg made the state under-14 girls’ team, while Erin Jones is a train-on for the squad and will also play for the under-14 girls’ Bushrangers side.
Natalya Dale (under-16 girls’ state team), James Munroe (under-16 boys’ Bushrangers team) and Liam Alards (under-14 boys’ Bushrangers team) were also named in Victorian squads.
The Bushrangers sides are for development players. Cannons’ vice-president Jeff Reidy was rapt to see the players recognised at a higher level. “This is the most we’ve ever had – we’ve had a few others in the past – but this is the most we’ve had in one hit,” he said.
“The kids are just improving and having more opportunities to participate in these types of things. I think they will give a good account of themselves. You’ve got to have some ability to make it, so I think they’ll do themselves and the club proud.”
