All-abilities hoops set for exciting finish

THE local all-abilities basketball competition will come to a climax on Thursday week when the teams play off in their respective grand finals.
The competition, for players with a disability, features four teams who will all play in grand finals, with the top two sides playing off for the F Grade title and the remaining two teams battling for the G Grade flag.
The Cranbourne District Basketball Association and the Merinda Park Basketball Club run the competition, which is in its second season.
The MPBC Rebels will take on the Wresa Rockets in the F Grade final and the MPBC F Troop will face MPBC Lightning in the G Grade, though there will be highlights before and after the game.
Long-time Wresa Rockets member Ricky Mae, who has been out of action this season, will speak before the game.
Gordon Edwards, from Merinda Park Basketball Club, said Mae wanted to be a part of the action.
“He’s been pretty crook, they asked if he could jump on the court for the grand final, he’s been in the Wresa Rockets since the start,” he said.
“The F Troop and Wresa Rockets have been going for six or seven years, maybe eight years, and there’s still some players from the original side there.”
As for a tip for the flags, Edwards said he was backing the Rebels and F Troop.
