NARRE Community Learning Centre celebrated its high achievers at their annual awards ceremony last Friday.
Several students, volunteers and tutors were recognised with awards for their hard work over the past year.
Emily Kilpatrick received the Courtney Park Memorial Youth Award after completing her Certificate 2 in Adult Education at the Malcolm Court centre.
The 15-year-old, who is about to become a mother, told the News she was honoured to take home the accolade. Staff at the centre said the Hampton Park teenager had strived to ensure she was educated and set up for her future.
“Emily’s work ethic has been infectious to her class mates and she always offers a helping hand.” Her award was named in honour of Courtney Park, a 17-year-old who died in 2006 after suffering an asthma attack. The award aims to encourage youth at the centre to achieve all they could.
Other award winners at the Adult Learners Week Award Ceremony include Tutor of the Year Steve Every, Marie Dunning Memorial Volunteer of the Year John White, June Thompson Memorial Mature Age Learner Sara Bernini, who also won the Literacy award, and Learner of the Year Paul Marshall.
The Class of the Year award went to the Aged Care Wednesday’s Class. Some of the guests at the event included Holt MP Anthony Byrne, Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley, Casey mayor Geoff Ablett and councillors Lorraine Wreford, Lynette Keleher and Shar Balmes.
