HAMPTON Park United’s senior reserves team capped off its remarkable soccer season on Sunday with a 1-0 win against Bayswater.
The result ensured the Bayside Soccer League team held its undefeated record throughout the season, finishing on top of the ladder with 14 wins and four draws, miles ahead of second-placed Croydon Ranges.
The reserves team was loaded with talent this year, with a number of senior players returning to the club. Team coach Jason Wasson said the club’s youth policy in the senior team also bolstered his reserves.
“We took a lot of the younger guys in the seniors this year and brought down a few of the older heads, that gave us a bit of depth and that gave us some years of experience,” he said.
“Croydon have been the powerhouse team for the last three years, we drew 0-0 over there (early in the season) then we beat them 2-1 at the end of August to win the league.
“The celebrations were very good,” he chuckled.
The club will continue its celebrations at its presentation night on 17 October.
United finish season on top
