HAPPY Birthday to Casey Hospital.
The Kangan Drive hospital celebrated its fifth birthday this week with a special visit from the first baby ever born at the Berwick site.
Four-year-old Taesha Westendorp enjoyed birthday cake at Tuesday’s event, with Health Minister Daniel Andrews also dropping in for the celebrations.
Southern Health chief executive Shelly Park said Casey Hospital had certainly come a long way.
“Casey Hospital was opened in 2004 to meet the care needs of the growing population in Melbourne’s south-east corridor,” she said.
“It was a very welcome investment in public health care for this region that continues to serve the community to the highest standards possible.”
On the day Southern Health was first given the keys to Casey Hospital it started off with 44 staff members.
Now it has more than 600 staff and 229 beds, with the services expanded to cover emergency, general medical, mental health, rehabilitation, surgical, maternity and special care nursery.
