Man blows .210 in booze checks

A DRIVER blew an alcohol reading of .210 during a booze bus operation in Berwick over the weekend.
The two-bus operation was set up along Princes Highway on Sunday between 3.30pm and 8.30pm.
The operation tested drivers travelling in both directions on the highway.
According to Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) Sergeant Pat McGavigan, police tested nearly 1000 drivers at one of the booze buses, with the other booze bus carrying out 700 preliminary breath tests.
Police caught seven drivers who were over the drink-drive alcohol limit.
Sgt McGavigan said he was extremely disappointed at the man who blew the highest reading on the day. “That reading was extremely high, too high to be driving,” he said.
Sgt McGavigan said the man had his licence immediately suspended.
He will face court at a later date, with Sgt McGavigan saying he expected the man to be off the road for a very long time for the safety of all road users.
Police will continue to use all methods possible to detect and prosecute drivers who take the risk of drinking and driving.
