Headmistress, hockey star hits century

BEA Boardman is celebrating her 100th birthday today.
The resident at Homewood Aged Care in Hallam is set to celebrate the milestone with a party at the centre surrounded by her family and close friends.
Carer Mandy Addicoat described Miss Boardman, who has never married, as a pleasant lady who loved to chat with the other residents.
“She’s right into reading and likes science and technology books,” she said.
Ms Addicoat said Miss Boardman had said on numerous occasions that she wished her mother was still here to see her reach 100-years-old.
“She often says her mother was a hard worker who did a lot for her,” Ms Addicoat said.
Miss Boardman’s nephew Laurie Smith told the News his family was very proud of his aunt turning 100.
Mr Smith said one of the achievement’s in his aunt’s life was being the headmistress of Dandenong Girls High School up until she retired more than 30 years ago.
Miss Boardman was a keen hockey player who played for Victoria and had a passion for music, in particular the cello.
She was born in Armadale and grew up in Prahran.
