By Melissa Meehan
THELMA Wakelin is well known for her involvement in Residents Against Toxic Waste in the South East (RATWISE), but she now has her sights set on another environmental topic in Casey.
Ms Wakelin is in the final year of her Diploma of Community Development at Chisholm Institute of TAFE.
As part of her studies she is trying to put together a focus group to determine whether an environment centre should be opened in the City of Casey.
“We would then look at the who, what, when and where of the centre if the focus group thinks that it would be viable to have one in Casey,” she said.
“It would take on local aspects.”
Ms Wakelin said bringing an environment centre to Casey was an exciting concept. She said the group was open to anyone who had interests in the environment and not afraid to speak up.
“I’ve always had a passion for the environment,” she said.
“Being with RATWISE made me realise the issues in the area.”
She said anyone who wanted to take part in the focus group could contact her on 0414 998 337 or Stuart Mariner on 9792 5787.
