Warehouse goes up in flames

FIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze at Sam’s Warehouse in Fountain Gate last Saturday.
Eight firefighters from Narre Warren and four from Hallam discovered a large column of smoke and fire emitting from the rear of the warehouse.
According to Fourth Lieutenant Damien Baker, the crews were confronted with numerous bales of cardboard and wooden pallets that had been stacked against the external wall of the building and were alight.
“The fire was quickly brought under control but fears were held for the extent of damage that had spread to inside the structure,” he said.
Once the crews gained entry into the building, they found minimal internal damage.
The fire is being treated as suspicious and investigations are continuing.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Narre Warren police station on 9705 3111.
