Centre report before council

A REPORT into the committee of management and its operations at the Oakgrove Community Centre was presented to Casey council at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Casey councillor Sam Aziz called for the report back in July following claims that a three-year-old girl was pulled out of a play group at the centre because her parents were late in paying $7 worth of fees.
Cr Aziz said he had also heard a number of other unsatisfactory reports involving people with a disability and people from ethnic backgrounds.
He said the report on theNarre Warren South centre had been a difficult but necessary process.
Some of the findings in the council officer’s report included poor cash handling procedures and a lack of understanding on governance and the role of the committee of management at the centre.
Cr Aziz said two members of the committee of management had since resigned.
A new committee of management for the Oakgrove Community Centre will be elected on 28 October at its annual general meeting.
Council officers are set to assist the new committee to administer the centre.
