Life in the fast track

THIRTEEN-year-old Jack Simpson is living his dream and loving every minute of it.
The Cranbourne motocross champ can already boast that he’s mates with local pros Kade Mosig, Cam Sinclair and Cheyne Boyd, and he has ridden alongside the world-famous Crusty Demons.
Earlier this month, he finished third in the Australian Junior Motocross Championships at Newry, competing in the 12-14-year-old two-stroke 85cc division. Having finished third in the 65cc division last year, Simpson said he was aiming ‘just to get a medal’ on the bigger bike.
The Maffra-Sale Motorcycle Club venue is just a stone’s throw from the family property that Simpson carves up on weekends, so he was stoked to finish on the podium at his pseudo-home track.
Simpson first hopped on a motorbike when he was four, but he didn’t exactly ease himself into the sport.
“I had a big crash and it just scared me for a while,” he recalled.
“I had a two-year break and then decided to get back into it at about seven.
“I’m not scared now. I’ve had some broken bones and can’t wait to get back on.” Simpson now trains twice a week and competes most weekends during the season. He could be touring with the Crusty Demons as early as next year.
