STATE-of-the-art architecture has led to Berwick Chase Primary School winning the best primary school award at the 2009 School Design Awards.
Principal Murray Geddes said the school was thrilled with taking home the title at the awards, which was held at the Docklands. With no traditional style classrooms at the Bridgewater Boulevard school, the students use flexible teaching spaces, which enables them to learn in an open environment, according to Mr Geddes.
“It has a modern feel and the teachers are able set up the rooms according to the teaching tasks,” he said.
The school was designed by ClarkeHopkinsClarke.
Minister for Education Bronwyn Pike congratulated the architects responsible for the cutting edge design in Victoria’s government schools, highlighting the relationship between learning and design to deliver excellence.
“Education is the Brumby Government’s number one priority and we’re building better schools for a better future for our kids,” Ms Pike said.
“The awards showcase innovative building design that reflects the 21st Century learning occurring in our Victorian schools.”
