Bag of nerves

By Kelly Yates
YEAR 12 students at Kambrya College put pen to paper after months of preparation as they sat the first of the VCE written exams last Friday.
Principal Michael Muscat said between 80 and 90 students sat the English exam.
Mr Muscat said many of the students and their teachers felt nerves prior the exam.
“There was a big build up for the first exam,” he said.
“The teachers also feel it because they’ve put in a huge year with their students. Some of them sweat just as much as the students.”
Mr Muscat said he was a proud principal.
“The students have put in a lot of effort and they’ve been a great bunch to work with,” he said.
Education Minister Bronwyn Pike said the final exam period was an exciting and challenging time.
More than 1000 mature age students, who are 18 years or older and have not been in full time secondary schooling for at least 12 months, were also set to sit a VCE exam.
Ms Pike said 630 students in their 20s, 118 in their 30s, 64 in their 40s, and four in their 70s were among the mature age students doing VCE this year.
The 2009 written exams are held from Friday 30 October to Thursday 19 November.
Students will receive their results via SMS, the internet and over the phone from 7am on Monday 14 December.
The VCE exam timetable is available at www.vcaa.vic.edu.au
