CHRISTMAS cheer will return to Berwick this year.
The City of Casey has confirmed that street decorations that were noticeably absent from High Street in 2008, will make a comeback this Christmas.
Casey’s acting manager of roads and construction Michael Apps said the council would install its existing Christmas decorations in the shopping precincts of Berwick, Cranbourne, Tooradin, Hampton Park, Endeavour Hills, Doveton, Hallam and Narre Warren.
Doveton, Hallam and Endeavour Hills were the only towns to be decorated in 2008.
Mr Apps said the other towns missed out because arrangements had not been reached with the electrical power supply company.
Berwick Village Chamber of Commerce president Harry Hutchinson welcomed the move.
“We want to see Christmas back in Berwick – every year we’re getting outdone by Fountain Gate. We would like to get all the traders involved this year,” he said.
The council is currently finalising arrangements with electrical power supply company, SP AusNet, to have the Christmas decorations placed on their power poles by the end of the month.
