AUTHOR of the acclaimed book Mao’s Last Dancer, Li Cunxin will be the guest speaker at Casey’s upcoming annual Arts Gathering on Wednesday 25 November.
Casey’s arts community, including artists, arts groups and community groups are invited to the free event at the Arthur Wren Community Hall in Hampton Park from 7pm to 9pm.
When released, Mao’s Last Dancer hit the top of Australia’s best sellers list and stayed on the top list for more than one and a half years.
It is now in its 23rd printing and has been published and sold in more than 20 countries.
The story recounts Li’s journey from when he was born into utter poverty in Mao’s communist China and how, at age 11, he was selected to train in Madame Mao’s Beijing Dance Academy.
Li recounts the determination, perseverance, vision and courage that drove him to become one of the best dancers in the world. Bookings are essential as numbers are limited. For details call 9705 5200 by 20 November.
