CHALCOT Lodge Primary School recently hosted a Robotics Fun Day as students from a range of Casey schools gathered to program their robots to complete various challenges.
The Robotics teams met at the Endeavour Hills school on Tuesday 20 October and worked on improving their problem solving, programming, engineering and teamwork skills.
This is the second year the school event has been held.
Education consultant Michael Polack, who coordinates the day on behalf of the Doveton and Endeavour Hills cluster of schools, said the event was an opportunity for students and teachers from different schools to learn from each other.
“We intend expanding this event as more schools integrate robotics into their curriculum,” he said.
Science teacher at Eumemmerring Primary School Melinda Browne said the students enjoyed getting together and sharing ideas.
“There is a real sense of camaraderie between the schools. The focus is on learning and achieving, not on winning,” Ms Browne said.
The Robotics Fun Day is seen as a way to practise skills and tasks in preparation for the First Lego League Challenge which is held in November.
This year, both Eumemmerring Primary School and Chalcot Lodge Primary School will be entering teams in the State challenge.
Information Communications Technology and Robotics teacher Tamsin Bearsley from Chalcot Lodge Primary School says she regularly uses Robotics as part of the curriculum.
“The students are always very excited when their robot successfully completes a challenge,” she said.
