POLICE are encouraging Casey school leavers to treat themselves and the community with respect as thousands of “schoolies” flock to popular destinations across the state to celebrate the end of Year 12.
Hillcrest Christian College student Laura Hampson and her friends are starting to pack their bags for a “schoolies” trip to Phillip Island next month.
The 17-year-old said many of the Year 12 students from the school were heading to the popular beach spot to mark the end of their secondary education.
Senior Sergeant Gerry Hengel, the officer in charge at the Narre Warren police station, said local students needed to act responsibly while at “schoolies” celebrations.
“A lot of damage can be done with excessive alcohol consumption. It can ruin their health and also their professional future if they get into trouble with the law,” he said.
“The youth need to remember that it’s illegal to consume alcohol if you’re under the age of 18. It is also an offence to use a false ID.”
Police will be out in force throughout the City of Casey as students wrap up for the summer holidays.
