Ali leads Vics to netball trophy

ALI YOUNG was so excited about Victoria’s win in the recent Australasian Catholic Netball Association Championships that they let her keep the team trophy – for a while at least.
Young, 15, is looking after the trophy at home in Narre Warren, having skippered the Victorian under-16 side in their unbeaten run through the tournament.
The promising goal-attack was among four Vics selected in the Australasian representative team after their grand final drubbing of South Australia.
Young competed in the under-16 division last year as Victoria’s only bottom-age player and is also the baby of her club side in the Victorian Netball League’s under-19 competition.
The Yarra Valley Grammar student plays for the school-based Aerials team in the VNL and is two years younger than any of her team-mates.
At 184cm, she isn’t exactly dwarfed by her older opponents, so you get the feeling that they’ll be in trouble in a couple of seasons’ time.
That height also comes in handy on the volleyball court, where Young has excelled in her first competitive season.
She will compete for her school at the national championships this week.
