Boost for war memorials

EX-SERVICE organisations, councils and community groups are invited to apply for grants to restore local war memorials.
Eligible groups can apply for funding of up to $10,000 from the Restoring Community War Memorials Grants Program to upgrade and enhance local commemorative sites and honour rolls.
Minister Assisting the Premier on Veterans’ Affairs Tony Robinson said there were more than 1100 war memorials in Victoria’s suburbs and towns, marking the courage and spirit of local servicemen and women.
“The Restoring Community War Memorials Grants Program provides funding for local people to get involved in upgrading commemorative sites to ensure our memorials remain places of local respect and pride into the future,” he said.
Since 2004, the Restoring Community War Memorials Grants Program has funded 261 restoration projects across the state.
Applications for the latest round of grants close on 15 February 2010.
