Chamber’s change of guard

By Kelly Yates

ROSS Neilson is the new president of the Narre Warren Chamber of Commerce.
The managing director of Frank Facey First National Narre Warren took on the role at last week’s annual general meeting when previous president Bob Burns stepped down after almost six years.
Mr Neilson, who was a past president of the Berwick Chamber of Commerce in the mid 80s, said one of his goals was to attract more members to the chamber.
“I will be drawing on my past experiences of being a president of a chamber of commerce with the help from the committee,” he said.
Mr Nielson, who has been a part of the Narre Warren Chamber of Commerce for around three years, is hoping to use the chamber’s new website as a way of gaining more members.
“We want people to go to the website in search of local businesses and services in the area,” he said.
“The more members we have, the more it will benefit everyone,” he said.
Mr Nielson said some of the benefits of joining the Narre Warren Chamber of Commerce included building relationships, interacting and networking with other businesses.
He described the chamber as a “trade union” for businesses in Narre Warren.
“We are the voice for the shop and business owners,” he said.
The Narre Warren Chamber of Commerce saw a re-birth under the leadership of Mr Burns.
In 2007, the chamber had four members, and it now has 46 members.
