Lotto luck for Casey- Parkhill Berwick News and Lotto owner

By Jade Lawton
TWENTY Casey people are looking forward to an extra special Christmas this year after pocketing a $25,000 boost from Tattersall’s.
A work syndicate ticket bought from Parkhill Berwick News and Lotto won first division in a draw on Saturday 21 November – a total of $518,391.20.
The syndicate leader, who bought the winning ticket, said the group had been playing together for just three months before their big win.
“I nearly died when I got the phone call from one of the guys saying that we’d won first division,” the woman said.
“We’ve actually had lots of small wins over the past few months, but this is just amazing.”
Each member of the syndicate will receive $25,919.56. Plans for the cash include health expenses, mortgage repayments, holidays and jewellery.
The owner of newsagency, Patricia Mernica, confirmed the winners were locals.
“The lady that has all the paperwork organised is a lovely person,” she said.
It is the second first-division prize the family-owned business has sold in less than six months.
“We have a very lucky Buddha smiling on a stand that you see when you first come in. Everybody puts coins on the stand and that goes to the Very Special Kids Foundation,” Ms Mernica said.
There were nine division-one winning entries in the draw, including four from Victoria.
