NARRE Warren South P-12 College has won the Victorian Multicultural Education Award for 2009, which recognises the multicultural programs offered at the school.
The award, which was given by the State Government and the Victorian Multicultural Commission at the recent Multicultural Excellence Awards at Government House, also acknowledged the quality of the school’s English as an additional language program, according to assistant principal Rob Duncan.
Mr Duncan said about half of the students at Narre Warren South P-12 College were from language backgrounds other than English.
Mr Casamento said the award was part of a most exciting phase in the improvement of the college.
“We are all tremendously proud of the efforts of our English as an additional language team, and multicultural aides for the work they have done in the development of best practice additional language programs,” he said.
Next year, the school plans to hold a multicultural day, where parents and students organise displays of regional cooking and set up a multicultural committee.
