Teddy taste

By Kelly Yates
FUTURE Heritage College prep students and their teddy bears enjoyed a picnic in the sun as part of their recent orientation day.
About 42 pre-schoolers teamed up with their grade four buddies for a teddy bear picnic at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick.
Every child brought their favourite teddy bear and enjoyed activities about bears, including stories and show and tell with prep teachers Tanja Dennis and Evelyn Charles. Ms Dennis said the school recognised the need for children to start their schooling feeling happy and confident.
“For the new preps to come to school and have a friend and someone big to look out for them will assist in helping them feel secure,” she said.
“I believe a child who is nurtured and well-acquainted with the new environment will make the adjustment from informal to formal education more smoothly.”
Year 4 student Chloe said she felt lucky she was chosen to look after a buddy.
“My buddy was Tyra and she had a fun time on the playground. I am glad she made some new friends,” she said.
At the end of the orientation session, the children were given a certificate and show bag of goodies to take home.
