THE locals reigned supreme at Cranbourne on Sunday, with four local trainers and a popular hoop celebrating in style on the Christmas Race Day.
Veteran Cranbourne jockey Mark Flaherty capped a stunning day for the home-track heroes when he notched his 1200th win on the Nikki Burke-trained Trajet in the penultimate race.
The promising four-year-old gelding led from start to finish and scored by 3.5 lengths over the 2025m journey, leaving Flaherty to acknowledge another milestone.
Meanwhile, Burke followed fellow locals Mick Kent, Greg Eurell and Robbie Laing, who entered the winners’ circle in races one, two and four respectively.
Eurell’s three-year-old filly All For Fame saluted in just her second race, the 1300m Star News Group 3YO Maiden Plate, while Kent’s four-year-old bay gelding How Fairdinkum won on debut in the 1000m first.
Laing’s four-year-old Rowland – sired by Lonhro – broke his maiden status in 1600m fourth at the generous odds of $13, providing more joy for loyal Cranbourne punters.
