AN ENDEAVOUR Hills cheerleader is getting ready to entertain crowds, as she will represent Australia in the world’s biggest competition for cheerleading.
Aimee Gonsalves and her 21 team mates, the X-Treme Superstars, will jet set to Orlando, Florida in April for the International All Star Federation (IASF) Cheerleading Worlds.
The junior cheerleaders were offered to compete at the competition after winning their division, which is the highest level of cheerleading in the country, at the AusCheer Grand Nationals last year.
The X-Treme Superstars, with team members aged from seven to 14, beat teams from Queensland and Western Australia in the competition.
Aimee, 10, has been training three days a week for the upcoming event.
The routine the girls will perform includes a dance component, tumbling, stunts, pyramids, a jump sequence and chanting.
Aimee, who has been cheerleading for two years, said she was both excited and nervous about the competition.
She said it was the famous “Bring It On” cheerleading movies that attracted her to the unique activity.
“I saw it on the movies and wanted to do it,” said the Thomas Mitchell Primary School student.
“My favourite things are the stunts we do.”
Aimee said she was also looking forward to exploring Disneyland while in the USA.
Coach Kerryn Brimmer from KLD X-Treme All Star Cheerleading and Dance told the News she was pleased to have a team at this year’s worlds.
“Last year I went to watch the competition and there were about 15,000 cheerleaders there. And every year it gets bigger and bigger,” she said.
The IASF Cheerleading Worlds runs from 23 to 25 April.
